General Information

This fall you are invited to experience the beauty of New England from the banks of the Charles River and enjoy America's Fall Rowing Festival, the Head Of The Charles® regatta. More than 7,000 athletes from around the world compete in 48 different race events: 24 womens and 24 mens.. The Regatta encompasses two-days and attracts up to 300,000 spectators during the October weekend.

"Head" races, a class of regattas, are generally longer than the Olympic sprint distance of 2000m or 1 1/4 mile. They can range from 2 - 5 miles. The Head of the Charles is 3 miles long. Boats race against each other and the clock, starting sequentially approximately fifteen seconds apart. Winners of each race receive the honorary title of "Head of the River" or, in this case, "Head Of The Charles."

The GLRF Booth

As a result of an incredibly generous $1,000 donation from a rower, GLRF will host a booth at the Head of the Charles Expo Tent. New for this year is the change in location to near the finish line. This was done because of construction improvements at the previous location, Magazine Beach. Both the launch and recovery for all but 1x and 2x boats will now take place at the finish line.

We need your help

Hosting a booth at the Head of the Charles provides GLRF with a unique opportunity to generate visibility within the rowing community. In order to showcase our main product, the GLRF website, we need computers, electrical power, internet access, and GLRF promo items. All of these items are possible but come at an additional cost. Please consider subsidizing one or more of these cost items and help make the GLRF booth truly compelling:

  • Electrical power - $150
  • Internet access - $150
  • 3 computer desktop rentals with 17 - 20” flat screen monitors - $200
  • GLRF promotional giveaway items: pens, stickers, pins. These items will be used at a number of events and your support will reach across several events - $400

Send us an email and tell us how you would like the donation to be used. We will list your name as one of the GLRF supporters at the Head of the Charles booth (unless you prefer to remain anonymous).Thank you!

In the evening - stop by the GLRF booth for a flyer

All clubs and rowers are welcome. It would be great to see some of the collegiate rowers. Relax, the marks on your neck go away after about a week. Great chicks party. Lesbian rowers rule!
