The Regatta

Known as the Last of the Great Fall Regattas, this 5,000 meter head race is reknown for its fun factor and nice water. The race begins upstream and sends boats along a broad, continuous portside turn, passing under three bridges, ending just in front of Ross’s Landing Park in Chattanooga. This new race venue is in its third year, having moved from the Chattahoochee River in 2005. There is wonderful spectator viewing at many points along the river.

"Head" races, a class of regattas, are generally longer than the Olympic sprint distance of 2000m or 1 1/4 mile. They can range from 2 - 5 miles.  Boats race against each other and the clock, starting sequentially approximately fifteen seconds apart.
