Finding a Club in LA

There’s rowing in LA? Really?! Where? The reaction is always the same. The answer is all over:

There are Adult, Collegiate, and Juniors programs. We’ve put together a comprehensive list. There are gay and lesbian rowers in just about every rowing facility so acceptance is not a problem.

Learn to Row programs vary, depending on the time of year. Typically clubs will host a learn to row class in the spring and the fall. The UCLA Aquatic Center has a continous cycle of rowing classes so they are one of the best resources.

The next most common question: sweep or scull. Dunno. Depends on you. One is more of a team oriented style and the other more of an independent style. Sweep is with both hands on one oar. You see most of the collegiate crews rowing sweep. Sculling is with two oars. You see that style most often in the luxury, refinement print and film ads. Sculing is perceived as more difficult to learn.
