Gay and Lesbian Pro Athletes Association Launches 800 Number For Services

A toll free number has been established to facilitate communication with gay & lesbian professional athletes and future pro athletes in need of peer support and mentoring.

The toll free number - 1-866-409-4522 - is available across North America, reducing barriers to services and support that may exist for athletes not located in major urban areas. For many individuals the toll free number will be their first and possibly only link to the Gay and Lesbian Professional Athletes Association (GLPAA). All calls will remain confidential. This is one of the first steps as the GLPAA builds a support network for both gay & lesbian athletes who want to come out of the closet and those that want to stay in.

The GLPAA is dedicated to change in professional sports. Throughout history, closeted gay and lesbian athletes have always participated at the top levels of sport.  GLPAA mission’s is to create an atmosphere where professional athletes can compete without concerns about sexual orientation.

The GLPAA was incorporated in October 2002 in response to continued incidents of discrimination within the professional sports community.  Volunteer driven, the GLPAA is in process of developing and implementing support programs.

The GLPAA was established in Canada and serves North America and beyond. The GLPAA is made up of the likes of former Professional Baseball Umpire Tyler Hoffman, Professional Power-lifter Chris Morgan,  Professional Motorcycle Racer Andre Espaillat, and Race Car Driver Billy Innes, to name a few.
