Gay + Lesbian Rowing Federation announces Australia Ready All Boats Awareness Campaign

The Gay + Lesbian Rowing Federation (GLRF) is pleased to announce the addition of Australia to its 2004 Ready All Boats! Awareness Campaign with a GLRF City Launch Event in Melbourne on 15 February 2004 and a GLRF City Launch Event in Sydney on 22 February 2004. GLRF hopes to promote rowing in the community and to generate interest in forming boats for the major gay and lesbian regattas planned for 2006 in North America.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 6, 2004-–The Gay + Lesbian Rowing Federation (GLRF) is pleased to announce the addition of Australia to its 2004 Ready All Boats Awareness Campaign with a GLRF City Launch Event in Melbourne on 15 February 2004 and a GLRF City Launch Event in Sydney on 22 February 2004.

The addition of Australia to the Awareness Campaign marks a turning point in the global reach of GLRF. The gay and lesbian rowing community in Australia has grown substantially. In 2001, Melbourne had the only gay and lesbian rowing group in the nation with 20 members. Today that number has more than quadrupled to 80 members and clubs are forming in Adelaide and Sydney. With individual registrations from Adelaide, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney, GLRF now comprises three continents: Australia, Europe, and North America.

GLRF City Launch Australia Series

Melbourne – 15 Feb 2004 – The Melbourne Midsumma Festival.
GLRF will share a table with the Melbourne Argonauts during the Carnival in Melbourne on 15 February. GLRF hopes to promote rowing in the community and to generate interest in forming boats for the major gay and lesbian regattas planned for 2006 in North America. In order to "get ‘em on the water," the Melbourne Argonauts will host a Rowing Camp 02 – 04 April 2004 in Nagambie. http://melbourneargonauts.com/ Rowers are being invited from all over Australia and according to Argonaut rower Annie South, “they are guaranteed to have a great time and improve their rowing out of sight!”

Sydney – 22 Feb 2004 – The Sydney Gay & Lesbian New Mardi Gras Fair Day.
GLRF will share a table with Team Sydney and the Sydney Argonauts during the Mardi Gras Fair Day in Victoria Park. This City Launch will mark the beginning of a major awareness campaign for gay and lesbian rowing in NSW, and a simultaneous recruitment drive for the Sydney Argonauts Rowing Club. Interested rowers and members of the community will be able to learn about rowing programs in Sydney as well as find information on the Aussie Gay Rowing Camp in Nagambie in April.

The Gay + Lesbian Rowing Federation is a worldwide umbrella organization for gay and lesbian rowers, promoting and supporting rowing in the gay and lesbian community with Web-based resources and information and serving as a liaison both within the community and with the larger international rowing world.
