2014 GLRF Miami Rowing Festival

CANCELLED

Friday, 14 Feb - Monday, 17 Feb 2014

Miami Beach Rowing Club

Indian Creek - along the Inland Waterway

Miami Beach, Florida

United States

GLRF is proud to partner with the Miami Beach Rowing Club to host the third winter training camp and rowing festival. Designed for experienced sweep and scull rowers, individuals and club squads will be able to enjoy 6 coached on-the-water sessions in 8+, 4+, and 4x boats.

Festival schedule:

Friday and Saturday each feature a morning and afternoon rowing session. Sunday and Monday include a morning-only session. Typically we start with a warm up on the club's ergs, and then head out on the water. We break for lunch for two hours. Evenings are open for whatever strikes the interest of the group (dinner and a visit to a great bar are de rigueur).

With a low coach to rower ratio, everyone will benefit from some great mid-winter training technique that can be applied for your spring season.

Registration will open on 15 November. If you're interested, please click the RSVP button to the right so you can receive updates. We also encourage you to join the All Oars Group: GLRF Miami Rowing Festival.

Nice to see some definite interest. I just emailed Miami Beach Rowing Club for pricing and hopefully we can open registration soon.

Okay, the insurance premiums and the camp costs are in. Here is the breakdown:

Insurance general liability + medical rider = $458* or $60/person

Breakage reserve pool = $190**/person

Rowing camp cost per person = $380***/person

Total cost per participant: $630

* So divided by 8, that comes out to $57.25/person - we rounded up

**Since GLRF is on the hook for any damage (up to the deductible) plus transportation costs (if any), we need to develop a prudent reserve pool (includes insurance premiums above). This would be mostly refundable if there was no damage, and it depends on the number of participants:

  • with 8 people and no damage, the refund would be $192.75
  • with 10 people and no damage, the refund would be $204.20
  • with 12 people and no damage, the refund would be $211.83

*** This is significantly higher than in years past. The explanation was:

The coaches want to be paid a reasonable amount for the extra sessions on top or their regular schedule

Unfortunately we only have 4 RSVP's as of 31 Jan 2014 so there is no way we can open registration. We will look for another location next year that can accommodate the GLRF members at a more reasonable price.
