Brugge boat race geniet stilaan internationale faam
Gisteren moet het waggelwater na afloop een heus waggelwater geweest zijn want tijdens de 23e Brugge Boat race kwamen enkel achtriemen op het water.
Bij de senioren heren kon de thuisclub echter niet verhinderen dat het sterke team van Westminster School met de zege terug naar Engeland vertrok. De Britten wonnen in 16:12.10, voor hun landgenoten van Hampton (16:28.47).
KR Brugge, met o.a. Pierre De Loof en Bert Verkest werden op ruime achterstand 3de (16:41.97).
Ook bij de junioren heren was het Westminster School dat met de zege aan de haal ging. 17:16.19 was voldoende om 3 ploegen van Hampton achter zich te houden.
De Brugge Boat race groeide de voorbije jaren uit tot een internationaal succes (de regatta staat ondertussen mee op de FISA kalender) , maar toch kwam er bij de junioren dames maar 1 ploeg opdagen. SIR uit Duitsland was de enige ploeg en de logische winnaar. Bij de senioren dames namen 6 ploegen het tegen elkaar op. Molesey BC won er in 17:43.16 en was zo 34 seconden sneller dan het Duitse SIR dat 2de werd. KRSG (Met o.a. Rottiers, Van Lint en Boels) finishte als 4de in 19:28.69.
